Jewelry Care

Quality jewels can have an unlimited lifespan given just a bit of appropriate maintenance. What are the foes of jewelry made of precious metals? Dust, pollution and natural skin oils all contribute to altering its shine.

This applies to silver, gold and precious stones as well. The claws and clasps can also wear over the years which can cause a stone or part of a jewel to detach. It is not recommended to wear jewelry when you are sleeping, swimming, or participating in sporting activities.

Also avoid contact with perfumes and make-up. MYEL only uses Sterling Silver and 10K-14K-18K solid gold, the most durable and lustrous of all metals found. With proper care, your MYEL jewelry will retain its beauty and character for many years to come.

Sterling Silver

Silver tarnishes quite quickly when it comes into contact with oxygen or sulfur. The best measure to prevent this, is wearing your silver jewelry often. The oils in your skin help prevent tarnish.

Solid Gold (10-14-18K)

Sometimes 14k gold can tarnish a bit, depending on your skin chemistry, but it is easy to fix...

Wearing Jewelry

Special Care

If your jewelry is set with precious stones, make sure to use the right technique to clean them. Some stones require attentive care.

Don't use hot water, as it could damage them or make them crack.

Everyday life can leave a mark on your gold jewelry. Since gold is soft and gets scratched easily, you should remove your jewelry before any activity that might cause damage.

Don't forget to remove your jewelry before stepping in the shower or cleaning the house - some soaps and cleaning products contain chemicals and abrasive substances that could damage your gold rings, earrings, bracelets or necklaces.

Cleaning

To clean your gold jewelry, we recommend you let them soak in warm soapy water - a few drops of gentle dish soap will do. Remove the remaining dirt and dust by scrubbing them gently with a soft toothbrush. Rinse your jewelry with warm water and dry them with a soft, clean cloth. Let them air dry and make sure they are thoroughly dry before wearing them.

Storing your jewelry

It is best to keep your gold and silver MYEL jewelry separate from other jewels in your collection to minimize scratches. Store them in a jewelry box or in the little black box it first came in. This will offer protection against dust and ambient air, the two elements usually responsible for gold and silver's premature tarnishing.
